Hotel plans, fundraisers top news

Development tends to multiply itself, and Natchez is primed to take advantage of the math.
Good news from last week included plans by convention center hotel developer Warren Reuther to develop more than just three stories of hotel rooms. Reuther wants to make sure the fountain on the bluff spouts water again, and he wants to carry through on the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s plan to light the Mississippi River bridge.
Our city can benefit exponentially from developers such as Reuther who want to pretty up the sites around theirs. We are lucky he has interest, now it is up to our leaders to hold him to his word.
Let’s review a few other good headlines from last week.
4The Leadership Natchez group has finished its project and completed its graduation, but class members say they still have some fundraising left to do. The group gave a $20,000 check to Pleasant Acre Day School this week, but they’ll be working to raise $10,000 more in the coming weeks.
4More than 40 riders hit the trails Saturday morning for a horse ride, a fun time and a good cause. The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol hosted its annual trail ride to raise money for St. Jude. Final tallies are not in yet, but the crowd of riders will surely help the children’s hospital.
The coming week brings the close of the school year and four graduations in Natchez. As many of our residents close one door and open another in their lives, let’s work hard to make their week a good week.
