A Natchez woman was killed early Thursday when a vehicle struck her as she was crossing U.S. 65.
Eric Guillot of Ferriday has been charged with vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated in connection with the case.
Louisiana State Police responded to a call at 2 a.m. Thursday morning to investigate a 911 call by Guillot, 23.
Guillot said he believed he had struck a pedestrian with his pick-up truck while traveling southbound on U.S. 65.
Martha J. Cupit, 50, of Natchez, apparently entered the roadway and was struck by the truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Concordia Parish Coroner’s Office.
Cupit was a patient at a local long-term care facility, and apparently had exited the facility through a window, reports at the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
Guillot was arrested and charged with a second-offense driving while intoxicated, vehicular homicide and no insurance. He is being held by the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office, and no bond has been set.
The death is the third pedestrian fatality on U.S. 84 in Concordia Parish this year. Two Vidalia residents were killed several months ago, one near the Vidalia Family Dollar, the other in front of Wal-Mart.
