Thanks to Walsh for good news

Sometimes bad news for the Miss-Lou is good news for its community members.
For 26 years, Sister Kathleen Mary Walsh has served our area at Holy Family Catholic School. Walsh left Natchez this week, leaving a gap in the school community. But Walsh has done her duty here, and now she’s off to Texas for retirement. We are thankful for her contributions, and in turn, glad to see her starting a new chapter of her life.
But the news wasn’t all bittersweet this week. Let’s review some of the purely good headlines from the Miss-Lou.
4Though all the numbers are not yet in, and there are likely some disappointments, on average, Concordia Parish students did better on state tests than their Louisiana counterparts. ILEAP scores went up in all subjects but science.
These tests are important for the district and the students, and it’s good to see the overall numbers improving.
4 Schools are out and the children may be bored, but Copiah-Lincoln Community College is ready to help.
Annual Kids College classes will start on June 4, keeping our young ones active for hours to come. Children and parents have a wide selection of classes, including moviemaking and guitar.
Co-Lin is just one local group offering camps and classes this summer. Libraries on both sides of the river will soon start summer reading programs, and various other camps are ongoing. With all of those options, children cannot complain of being bored for long.
As the dog days of summer approach, let’s hope the good news keeps coming.
