Meet the candidates at Senior Center

Published 1:10 am Sunday, June 3, 2007

Wow! It is almost time for elections on Aug. 7. Do you know who is running? Have you thought about who you might vote for? Natchez Adams Council on Aging is sponsoring an intergenerational community spirit day called “Meet the Candidates at the Natchez Senior Center.” Do you have a child or a grandchild that has jut turned 18 or has not registered to vote? Bring him or her to the Senior Center and help them register to vote and learn about the voting process. What a great opportunity!

While we are talking about it, do you have a friend that says, “My vote won’t make a difference.” Ask them to come with you to meet the candidates so that they can make an educated choice. Our forefathers fought; and our young men and women in the military today are often times giving their lives so that you and I can live in a Democracy where we have a government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.” Do not disservice them or yourself by not educating yourself on the current issues.

All of our local candidates of the 2007 election year have been invited to gather during this event to share their stand on current issues. Also, each candidate will be given the opportunity to speak from the stage moderated by the Newscaster from First Natchez Radio Group. Come and hear what the candidates have to say and then have one-on-one time to discuss issues that concern you.

The day will be filled with education, games, fun and most importantly the opportunity to MEET THE CANDIDATES. There will be hot dogs, soft drinks, fruit, watermelon and bottled water.

Come join us at the Natchez Senior Center, 800 Washington Street on Friday, June 29, 2007 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Please note this will be the only event that allows you to register to vote, share in conversation with the candidates, and learn how to use the new computerized voting machines at the same time. Come meet with your friends and neighbors and enjoy this fun-filled day.

Off-site parking will be available at Margaret Martin Performing Arts on Homochitto Street with continuing shuttle service every five minutes offered by Natchez Transit from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This event is sponsored by the Natchez Adams Council on Aging, Natchez Coca-Cola Bottling, United Mississippi Bank, Natchez Market, and First Natchez Radio Group.
