NATCHEZ — Businesses and industries in the northern part of Adams County could receive thousands of dollars in tax credits under a federal program, and at 10 a.m. June 11, they can find out how to benefit.

Five years ago, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development designated parts of the state as a Rural Renewal Community (RC), one of only 12 in the nation.

The program allows businesses and industries to receive tax credits and incentives that will provide businesses with immediate tax relief.

The program will continue through Dec. 31, 2009.

Portions of Natchez are in the RC. The Natchez-Adams County Development Authority, along with the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District and the Mississippi Development Authority, will hold a meeting to educate business owners on the topic.

The workshop will start at 10 a.m. June 11 in the St. Louis room of the Natchez Convention Center.

The session is geared toward business owners and CPAs.

To qualify for the tax incentives such as an increased deduction or purchasing equipment and renovating or buying new buildings, one must live and work in a designated RC.

To find out if a business is in the designated RC, visit www.hud.gov/cr.
