VIDALIA — Rain or shine, girls ages 8-12 will have a chance to improve their fastpitch softball skills this week as Vidalia head softball coach Jeannie Hall will hosts her first fastpitch softball clinic today through Wednesday at the Vidalia High softball field or gym, depending on the weather.

Hall, who played college softball at Delta State University and has years of experience coaching fastpitch in Louisiana, will be assisted by her assistant coach Graham Roberts, former Copiah Lincoln pitcher Kelly Fuller and Vidalia senior Chelsie McElwee.

So far 22 players have signed up, and Hall said girls are still welcome to sign up Monday morning, prior to the clinic starting at 9 a.m. The clinic will last until noon, and the cost is $50. Sports Center is providing T-shirts for those signed up and Hall is providing drinks and snacks.

“We are going to do defensive drills, offensive drills. We will work on base running and sliding,” Hall said. “I will work on pitching and catching with those girls that want to learn how to pitch.”

Hall said this is a good opportunity for girls 8-12 years old to learn the fundamentals of fastpitch because at that age, most have not had much exposure to the game on the fastpitch level.

“Most of the drills we do, I used in college, but I also will use some new ones that I have picked up along the way,” she said. “I want to teach them skills and things that they can take back to their coaches and that they can practice at home.”

But the clinic won’t be all work and no play, Hall said they will have daily competitions and awards will also be given out at the end of the clinic on Wednesday.

“Our goal is to try to make each little girl better,” she said. “And we are going to make it fun.”

Girls age 13 and up will have their chance to hone in their skills next week, as Hall will host a clinic for the older girls Monday, June 11 through Wednesday, June 13. Hall said there are plenty of spaces still available and encouraged any girl age 13-and older to sign up. The cost of that camp is also $50 and for more information or to sign up, Hall can be reached at 318-719-0064.
