VIDALIA — After hosting the first day of her first ever three-day fastpitch softball clinic, Vidalia High head softball coach Jeannie Hall said she was very pleased with the players’ attitudes and the level of skill that they showed.
For her first clinic, Hall had 21 girls show up to improve several fundamental fastpitch softball skills.
“We had a lot of fun,” Hall said. “I saw great potential in all of these girls, and I was excited to see it.”
During the first day Hall and her assistants worked with players on diving for fly balls, bare-handing ground balls and diving for ground balls. Players worked on their throwing technique, and how to make their arms stronger.
“I think diving in the outfield was their favorite,” Hall said.
A diving mat was used in the outfield to help teach the girls how to correctly dive without them getting hurt.
To help reinforce what was taught, Hall also had games and competitions to spur the girls’ competitive drive. Paige Bryan won the throwing contest, while Mikayla Smith finished first in the fielding competition.
On Tuesday Hall will work with players on improving hitting and other offensive drills along with base running.
“I was very pleased with the way things went today. Things ran smoothly, on time, and we were very organized,” Hall said. “And the girls were excited about being there even though it was early.”
