TWENTY YEARS AGO — Meridian native Derrick McKey, who averaged 18.6 points a game while earning Southeastern Conference Player of the Year honors as a junior at Alabama, is selected by the Seattle Supersonics in the first round of the NBA Draft.

TEN YEARS AGO — Chipper Jones, Fred McGriff, Michael Tucker and Jeff Blauser each hit a home run during a nine-run third inning, Atlanta’s biggest inning since 1989, as the Braves rally from an early 3-1 deficit to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies 12-5.

FIVE YEARS AGO — Timmy Foster and Benji Maher each hit three-run home runs as the Natchez Dixie Boys 14-year-olds All-Stars defeat Wilk-Amite 15-3 in Game 1 and Maher has a double and a triple in a 1703 win in Game 2 of a doubleheader.
