TWENTY YEARS AGO — Seven years after being named Louisiana Coach of the Year in basketball in her final year at Newellton High School, North Natchez girls’ basketball and girls’ track and field coach Mary Irving is named Girls’ Coach of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Coaches.

TEN YEARS AGO — Paul Hayles is named athletic director at Trinity and will be coaching the varsity and junior high football teams while David King, in addition to assisting in football, will be coaching the boys and girls basketball teams.

FIVE YEARS AGO — David New Oil coach Mike Lazarus will try to lead a team he used to coach against as the Rebel League champs will take on Confederate League champ Scott’s Welding in the Natchez Dixie Youth AAA 9-10 title game.
