BLACK HAWK — Two tanks filled with oil exploded in south Concordia Parish near Louisiana 15 at roughly 11 a.m. Monday.

The tanks, each of which contained 24 barrels of oil, caught fire while men were working on a nearby oil pump, Concordia Fire District No. 2 Chief Nolen Cothren said.

“Some kind of line caught fire, and they were trying to put it out,” Cothren said. “They heard a whistling noise and knew it was time to run. They took off running, and the two tanks went about 500 feet in the air.”

One tank landed in a field and the other landed in the road, where it exploded.

“One burst open and split,” Cothren said. “The oil inside it was on fire. We talked to the state police, and they said let it burn out.”

The tanks held oil from a nearby pump, Cothren said.

No one was injured in the fire, he said.

“Everybody got away from it before it exploded,” he said.

Rabb Contracting Company, LLC, owns the tanks.

The oil pump shorted out and ignited the oil in the line leading to the tanks, owner Claude Rabb said Monday.

The flame traveled through the line and caught the tanks on fire.
