NATCHEZ — The 9-and-under PONY girls softball team in Vidalia is on a roll.
They placed first out of five teams earlier this month in a tournament in Mamou, La.
They then traveled to Erath, La., to compete in a 19-team tournament. They finished third.
The girls will head to Saint Amant, La., this weekend for regional competition. They will compete against a field of 19 teams.
The Protect Our Nation’s Youth girls’ softball team will play in National Tournament July 11-14. It will take place in Slidell, La.
They will be holding several fundraising events over the next two weeks in order to raise money for nationals.
“It will cost approximately $5,000 to go,” fundraiser coordinator Tina Thompson said.
On July 6, the team will be at the Vidalia Wal-Mart between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. selling fish plates.
“The plates will include six pieces of fish, coleslaw, hushpuppies, french fries and bread,” Thompson said.
Plates will sell for $7. If there are any businesses or large orders of eight or more, call Tina Thompson to pre-order. Her number is 601-807-2229.
