NATCHEZ — It took two days but the T.M. Jennings 9- and 10-year-old season champ was finally crowned Friday afternoon.

Eddie Green Construction and Pyrons Furniture started playing Thursday at 6:30 p.m. After five hours of play and a score of 34-23, T.M. Jennings Director Eric Fry called the game at the top of the sixth at 11:30 p.m., saying play would resume 6 p.m. Friday.

“I had to call it. It was getting late,” Fry said.

Eddie Green Construction, Thursday’s leaders, came out strong Friday evening. They were able to add another five runs to their score, winning the championship 39-24.

“It was all worth it,” Eddie Green Construction head coach Tarvares Letcher said.

The players celebrated by drenching assistant coach Chris Cones with the water cooler and spraying each other with silly string.

“I feel great,” pitcher-catcher Barney Hawkins said. “It was a good game.”

Pitching became an issue for both teams due to the pitch count rule.

“I think everyone on the team pitched at one point,” Letcher said.

Pitchers are only allowed to throw 75 pitches before a mandatory three-day lay off.

T.M. Jennings will conclude their season today with an awards ceremony and a coaches vs parents baseball game at 6:30 p.m.

“This is a good way to get parents involved and have fun,” Fry said. “It’s been a great season.”

T.M. Jennings will announce their All-Star team later this week.
