Good news fills slow, hot week

Things have slowed down a bit in the Miss-Lou now that the heat of summer has arrived in full force.

But even slow weeks can be good weeks in our community.

Let’s review some of the good news of last week.

– One locally owned business shut its doors a few months back only to open them again with a new local at the helm. Heard Music Company has been a staple of this community for 30 years. Frank Heard furthered the careers of many young musicians. But now his partner Stan Smith is running the business and promoting business. We are glad to see the doors still open and Stan in charge.

– Ferriday Police officer Craig Southern is a hero at home and a hero abroad. Southern will head to Iraq soon with the Louisiana National Guard, but Ferriday paused Thursday to bid him fond farewell. The Ferriday Police Department has vowed to become a support system for Craig’s wife, and the whole town will eagerly await his return. We’ll thank him in advance for his service to our country.

– Election season paid a visit to the Natchez Senior Citizen Center last week when candidates participated in a forum and election experts demonstrated new voting machines. The candidates were, of course, seeking votes, but the forum is the right idea for our community. It’s important that everyone gets involved in local elections, and the forum was a great start.

Things will be slow for a few more weeks before the fall rush hits again. We know the community will enjoy the downtime and fill the summer with plenty of good news.
