MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) — An autopsy shows a Pike County jail inmate who was found dead in his cell last week died from natural causes.
Pike County Coroner Percy Pittman said Monday that Elroy Lee Cedototal, 46, died from coronary artery disease caused by diabetes.
Cedototal was awaiting extradition to Louisiana from Pike County after being arrested on an outstanding felony theft warrant from Ascension Parish when he died.
Sheriff Mark Shepherd said jail staff found Cedototal, of Tylertown, unresponsive in his cell about 6:45 a.m. on June 27 during a routine check.
Shepherd said attempts by jail staff and Emergystat paramedics to revive Cedototal were unsuccessful. He said no foul play is suspected in the case.
