NATCHEZ — Revenge never felt so sweet as the Ferriday 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars beat Winnsboro 16-8 Tuesday night.

Ferriday jumped on top in the first inning off a two run single from Tommy Poole.

Pitcher Ty Brown was able to hold Winnsboro to only a run in one complete inning. But he got in a jam in the second after he allowed a double and two walks. Jake Barlow was brought in for relief.

“Ty was doing well,” head coach Travis Brown said. “We needed someone to throw strikes and Barlow throws strikes.”

Substitute Jake Cooper gave Ferriday a jolt in the fourth with a two run double.

The energy carried over to the fifth for Ferriday when a Barlow hit scored three runs, helping Ferriday score eight runs on six hits.

“It felt good,” Barlow said.

Winnsboro was unable to answer scoring only three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

“Winnsboro is tough,” said Brown. “You have to get and stay ahead.”

Ferriday did just that in the sixth inning adding four more runs to the scoreboard and shutting the door on Winnsboro’s chances of moving on to the championship game.

Barlow took the win striking out five batters and walking two.

With the win, Ferriday has clinched a spot in the District Tournament to be held Saturday in Monroe, La.

They will face Vidalia Thursday at 6 p.m. in the championship game.
