Xi Alpha Phi annual banquet sets new tone for year

NATCHEZ — The annual Founders Day Banquet for Xi Alpha Phi sorority was at The Castle Restaurant.

Following the seated dinner Chapter President Jeanette Webb led members in presenting the special program and awards.

Beth Webb and Shirley Wilson each read messages from the International office in Kansas City and announced the new sorority theme, Sing A Song of Sisterhood. All service projects, socials and other functions of the chapter will use this theme for the new season.

Mary Lee Denton won the P.A,C.E. award, which is presented annually and is given to a member who has demonstrated the qualities of participation, commitment, attitude and enthusiasm.

Jean Simonton, woman of the year in 2005-2006, presented the 2007-2008 award to chapter president Jeanette Webb.

New officers who were chosen for the coming year were Jeanette Webb, president; Shirley Wilson, vice president; Paula White, treasurer; Jean Simonton, corresponding secretary; Dana Dent, historian; and Mary Lee Denton, recording secretary.

Service projects for April and May have been completed. In April the chapter donated food collected to the Natchez Stewpot and in May donations were made to the Salvation Army.

Also in April, members enjoyed a social time by attending the Historic Natchez Pageant as a group in honor of pageant participants Anna and Michael Roboski and Rachel Smilo. The next regular chapter meeting will be held at Key Rehab at 7 p.m.
