Miss-Lou will help Drew’s family
Published 12:00 am Friday, July 6, 2007
On July 13 and 14 friends and family will come together to host a co-ed softball tournament. All proceeds will go to help Drew Kossum and his family.
Drew was in an accident on June 6 while working in an oil field, and there was an explosion. Drew was badly burned. He was taken to Southwest Mississippi Hospital in McComb then flown to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Ga. The burns that Drew received cover about 60 to 65 percent of his body. At this time Drew has already had several surgeries and is expecting more.
The doctors are saying that he could remain in the hospital for months. Each day that goes by Drew is improving. I can only imagine what his family is going through — to be so far away from your home, family and friends.
While Hank and Kathy are with Drew, we here in Natchez can step up to the plate and adopt this family and help raise enough money to supply whatever needs that they have. It’s very important that Kathy and Hank be there for Drew at this time. Just close your eyes and picture one of your children or loved one in this situation. There are so many ways that you and I can help.
If you would like to help with the softball tournament and don’t play ball, we still need sponsors, umpires, raffle items and concession stand items.
I want to thank Randy Freeman for sponsoring the Family team, which includes Ronnie Brown, Eddie Walker, Donnie Holloway, Mike Smith and Desiree Smith. Thank you for getting involved and for helping broadcast to get the message out.
I want to challenge everyone in this Miss-Lou area to pick up a phone and call and ask what you can do to help. Also, I want to churches to take one Sunday in the month of July, call it Drew Day, and have a special offering. Let’s all make a difference. A Nook Logan jersey and a Von Hutchins jersey will be raffled off.
