Natchez — Police arrested a woman Thursday who reportedly escaped from custody in Washington state, Natchez Police Department’s Sgt. Craig Godbold said Friday.

Elisha Dianne Mason, 39, 707 Texas Ave., Ferriday, was being held for Tacoma, Wash.

“She was in a vehicle that had been stopped for a narcotics violation, and we checked warrants on her,” Godbold said. “Turns out, she was wanted out of Tacoma for escape of custody. Apparently, she assaulted somebody and escaped.”

Mason initially signed a waiver of extradition to face charges in Tacoma, Godbold said.

“Now, she’s saying she doesn’t want to go,” he said. “(The city) will charge her as a fugitive from justice, and she’ll stay here in jail.”

No bond was set for Mason Friday evening.
