NATCHEZ — For the superstitious it doesn’t get much luckier than today — 07-07-07.

Take it a step further and the seventh hour of the seventh day of the seventh month of 2007 may be the best time to try your luck.

At least that’s what local resident Pattie Bowser thinks. She’ll be at the Isle of Capri casino wishing on lucky seven.

“I am going to come at seven in the evening and buy three tickets,” Bowser said.

She is holding out hope today may bring her fortune.

“I hope to win something, seven has been lucky for me so far, my son was born in the seventh month,” Bowser said.

The seven mania has businesses and hotels across the country marketing their wares and offering special promotions, but in Natchez, today is more than just lucky for Jerrica Adams. It’s the big day.

Adams and her fiancé Curtis Birgil picked this as their wedding day specifically for its date.

“I hope the date will bring me lots of luck and prosperity,” Adams said.

Adams, who is a cocktail waitress at Isle of Capri Casino, says the number has proven lucky for people on the boat, especially with the slot machines.

“You always hear people yelling ‘lucky number 7’ on the boat,” Adams said.

Adams will also wear something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue, a superstitious tradition practiced by many brides. However, she does not consider herself a superstitious person.

“I first heard about the date in class,” Adams said. “I mainly wanted that to be my wedding date because it’s easy to remember.”

Birgil says he’s not superstitious either.

“I think the wedding could have fallen on that date for a reason, but I don’t really know,” Birgil said.

Her minister, the Rev. Johny Ellory, thinks the marriage can only benefit from the date.

“I don’t believe in luck, I believe in blessings,” Ellory said. “Seven is the number of completion, and it is blessed for anyone to get married, especially on this date, because God endorses the number seven in the Bible.”

Ellory plans on tying in the sermon with the date.

“I will remind them that if you can relate anything to God, such as the date, it can only be an enhancer,” Ellory said.
