Girl Scouts win state awards

NATCHEZ — Mary “Tia” Moore, Jasmine Winding and Jordan Winston earned their bronze award and Valyncia Danielle Alexander Lamesha Johnson, Charyne Pierce and Latriece Thompson received their silver award in cadette girl scouting on Sunday, May 6 at the Mississippi Medical Mall in Jackson.
Each spring, the Girl Scout Council recognizes all gold and silver award earners and graduating high school seniors, but this year they added the bronze award earners to the list of honorees.
This year’s theme was “Girl Recognition Event – A Celebration of Achievements.”
The awards were presented by program services director Vera McFarlin-Johnson, chief executive officer, Tina Crump and council president Jean Lee of Girl Scout Council of Middle Mississippi.
These awards stated, “That their accomplishment exemplifies the ideas of the Girl Scout movement.”
Ashley Hawkins and Deonica Thomas of Troop 612 received their silver award in May 2006.
Vicky Alexander is leader of Troop 612 and Annie Hargrave is assistant leader, along with Jackie Hawkins, Lillie Winston, Beverly Pierce, Shemeka Williams, Maryann Johnson, Angela Minor, Debra Smith, Daisy Ware and Ms. Hattie Harris.
