MCCOMB — The Natchez 9-year-old All-Stars had a 5-0 lead over Wesson Thursday afternoon in the bottom of the fifth inning when heavy rain forced the rest of that game to be played Friday afternoon.

The good news for Natchez head coach Terry Moffett was that with that big of a lead and having Edwin Byrne on the mound, his team didn’t have to worry about losing its momentum as Natchez defeated Wesson 6-2.

“With the 5-0 lead, we felt good about (staying focused),” Moffett said. “If we were down 5-0, I’d be concerned.”

Byrne pitched all six innings for Natchez as he struck out seven batters. No one for Wesson had an extra-base hit and there were no multiple hitters for the losing team.

“Edwin did a real good job. As long as he pitches like that, we’re in real good shape,” Moffett said.

Skeeter Myles had a big hit in the game with a solo inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning. Andrew Beesley went 2-for-3 and Jeremy Myles was 2-for-2 for Natchez.
