MAGEE — It rained for two hours during the early afternoon hours on Tuesday, but that didn’t stop the Natchez All-Stars from pounding out 15 hits in a 14-5 win over West Jasper at the Coach Pitch South Regional Tournament.

“They all hit the ball good, but it’s so wet that when the ball hits in the outfield, it’s a divot and the players are throwing in right back in the infield and that’s why we had a lot of singles,” Natchez head coach Gary Farmer said.

Dalvion Jackson had a triple and Craig Bradley had two doubles. The other 12 hits for Natchez were being singles.

“They hit well through the lineup and played great defense again,” Farmer said. “It was standing water in the infield and in the outfield.”

And that was Natchez’s first game of the day.

In the second game, Natchez rallied from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Copiah 4-3 in eight innings. Natchez scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3 and send the game into extra innings.

Reed White scored the winning run for Natchez on an infield shot by Jacob Jenkins in the bottom of the eighth inning. White got on with a single, went to second on a fielder’s choice by Jace Calcote and eventually went to third.

“It was an awesome game,” Farmer said. “Great defense by both teams. I have to give it to Copiah. They have a great defense, but so do we. We stroke it way over the outfielder’s head, but we could only get a single.”

Natchez ended up with nine hits while Copiah was held to five hits in the game.

The game was tied at 1-1 through five innings when Copiah scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead and seemed to have the game in hand. That was until Natchez rallied in the bottom of the sixth.

“It was a good game. We’re glad to come out on top,” Farmer said. “We’re the only undefeated team in the South (Regional) Tournament.”

Natchez will take on Moss Point today at 6 p.m. at Field 1 while Copiah will take on the winner of the Hattiesburg-West Jasper game today at 6 p.m. at Field 3. The winners of those two games will meet in the championship series today at 8 p.m. at Field 1.
