Ferriday — An oncoming vehicle struck a local teen as she crossed Louisiana 15 Tuesday night.
The teen, a 16-year-old female, was crossing at the intersection with Kyle Road in Ferriday when she was struck by a car driven by George Hawkins, of Ferriday, Ferriday Police Maj. Johnny Evans said.
The incident happened about 10:30 p.m.
The girl was struck in the left leg by the left side of the car, Evans said.
The girl was taken to Riverland Medical Center and treated, and no bones were broken, Evans said.
“She was mostly just scared,” he said.
The girl was crossing the highway at the same time as another teen, and said she did not see the oncoming car, Evans said.
Hawkins also reportedly said he saw the first teen cross but did not see the other one until it was too late, Evans said.
Hawkins was not cited for the accident.
“It wasn’t his fault,” Evans said. “It was late and the girl was hard to see — she was wearing black.”
This is the third pedestrian accident to take place at night in the last two months, and is the fifth pedestrian accident to happen since January.
