HATTIESBURG — The Natchez T.M. Jennings All-Stars took care of business Sunday afternoon as they defeated host Hattiesburg 14-4 to win the 9- and 10-year-olds District Tournament championship.

Natchez won the game despite having no extra-base hits and only one multiple hitter — Tyler Fleming, who went 2-for-4. They also got a solid pitching performance from winning pitcher Tyrell White.

“A lot of singles and the bases loaded and a couple of runs walked in,” Natchez T.M. Jennings 9- and 10-year-olds All-Star head coach Lee Wong Hughes said. “We started off good and we finished good.”

HATTIESBURG — The Natchez T.M. Jennings All-Stars had little trouble in defeating Hattiesburg 13-1 in four innings to win its District Tournament championship.

Darrin Johnston had a solid outing on the mound for Natchez has he gave up just one hit in three and two-thirds innings before Jordan White came in and got the last batter.

“We had a good game. Had a strong performance from Darrin Johnston,” Natchez 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars head coach Johnny Williams said. “Had some strong defense, too.”

Hattiesburg had a left-hander on the mound to start the game, but the Natchez All-Stars pounded him to the tune of five runs in the first inning and three more in the second as they jumped out to a big lead and never looked back.

“We had a lot of base hits. Our kids played hard,” Williams said.

Like the 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars, the Natchez 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars will also return to Hattiesburg to compete in a best-of-three series for the state championship later this week against an opponent to be determined.

“I thank the community and we reached the goal that we wanted. We won the district championship,” league president Eric Fry said. “We ask sponsors and everyone in the community to make donations to United Mississippi Bank. We (Natchez T.M. Jennings Little League Baseball) have an account with United Mississippi Bank. We’re at a point where we can bring state back to Natchez.”

Fry also said that transportation is another concern. “If anyone has passenger vans, that would help with the transportation.”
