Sheriff’s Office investigating U.S. 61 North robbery

WASHINGTON — The Adam County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the robbery of the Dollar General store on U.S. 61 North in Washington.

According to investigator Ricky Stevens, store manager Lisa Rice found the front door of the store open when she came to open up Monday morning. That is when she reported the incident to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded to the scene and discovered that the front door had been broken into and that the store safe had been taken off the bolts in the floor and taken from the store office. The safe had an undetermined amount of cash.

The theft occurred between closing time Sunday evening and Monday morning.

According to Stevens, the robbers cut telephone lines to the building and alarm system before breaking into the building.

The incident remains under investigation.
