NATCHEZ — After Sara Lee announced a recall of 27 brands of bread, Supermarket Operations has pulled everything from its shelves that it needs to, Natchez Market Assistant Manager Fred Chapman said Saturday.
“We have contacted our Sara Lee representatives, and they have been to the store and identified those involved in the recall,” Chapman said.
“All the Sara Lee breads on our shelves are safe for consumption.
“It was just a very, very few loaves involved. All the breads at The Markets are safe.”
Supermarket Operations owns Natchez Market, Natchez Market 2, Piggly Wiggly, Vidalia Market and Ferriday Market.
Wal-Mart in Natchez is safe as well, Assistant Manager Robbie Matthew said.
The store never had any of the affected products in stock.
Sara Lee Corp. is recalling 27 products of whole wheat bread brands that could contain small metal pieces, the company announced Friday, according to the Associated Press.
A recent routine inspection of a Meridian bakery revealed problems with a flour-sifting screen.
The recall involves EarthGrains, Publix, Sara Lee Delightful, Sara Lee Hearty & Delicious and several other brands.
The recalled bread is stamped with a “best if purchased by” date of July 25 to Aug. 7 and included the code “222.”
The products were sold in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.
