GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — ‘‘Good Morning America’’ television program host Robin Roberts was to undergo cancer surgery Friday morning in New York, family said.

Roberts’ mother and sisters this week traveled from the Mississippi Gulf Coast and New Orleans to New York be with the 46-year-old. Roberts announced Tuesday on the ABC morning show that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Roberts family has asked friends and the public to respect their privacy as they help her heal, according to a www.sunherald.com article.

Roberts grew up in Pass Christian. She attended Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La.
