WOODVILLE — Services for Thomas Oswald “Tommie” Whitaker, 84, of Woodville, who died Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at Field Memorial Community Hospital, in Centreville, will be 2 p.m. today at Woodville United Methodist Church with the Revs. Warren Whitaker, David Harrison and Gerald Martin officiating.
Burial will follow at Magnolia Plantation Cemetery under the direction of Newman Funeral Home in Centreville.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time today at the church.
Mr. Whitaker was born Nov. 28, 1922, in Woodville, the son of John and Mary Woods Whitaker. He was a retired farmer and a road supervisor for 12 years. Mr. Whitaker served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Odd Fellows, a member of Woodville United Methodist Church and he was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Joy Illiene Bailey; a son, Thomas Oswald Whitaker Jr.; sisters, Almena Major and Mary Chapman; and a grandson, Thomas Karl Whitaker.
Survivors include his wife, Joy Martin Whitaker of Woodville; daughters, Clairena Whitaker Stanton of Dallas, and Mary Whitaker McKey of Woodville; sons, the Rev. Warren Woods Whitaker, Eli Martin Whitaker, Joseph Kilbourne Whitaker and Dr. Dick Sessions Whitaker, all of Woodville; sisters, Anntoniette Whitaker Jackson of St. Francisville and Lillian Whitaker Netterville of Woodville; brothers, Richard “Dick” Whitaker and John Whitaker, both of Woodville; 25 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons, John Whitaker, Warren Whitaker II, Gary Wayne McGuire, Ben Stanton, Will Stanton, Cody Whitaker, Eli Whitaker Jr., L.D. Powell III, Luke Whitaker, Silas Whitaker and Aiden Whitaker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lester Stockett, Louis Flaccomio, Shep Crawford, Nolan McCraine, Eugene Pritchard and Jimmy Sessions.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a church of choice.
