It’s up to us to be safe on roads

By 8 a.m. today the majority of our area’s little ones will be back to the books.
Natchez public schools started school Wednesday, Cathedral started Thursday and Concordia Parish schools start today. A few more schools will get cranking Monday.
Children’s minds are likely still moving at summer speeds, and the area drivers are too.
During the summer months travelers get used to speeding by area schools with no delays. Morning bus stops bear no children. And the traffic congestion is non-existent.
But those of us not in school need to remember those who are. The areas around schools will become congested each morning and each afternoon from now until May.
Morning and afternoon bus stops mean small children may be in the street or close to the curb.
Our educators will keep our children as safe as possible during the school day, but it’s up to the rest of us to be cautious on the roadways.
Plan extra time into your school-time driving routines and prepare to be patient around dismissal.
A new year brings new hope for our future, excitement in young eyes and hopefully a safe learning environment.
We hope this year is the best one for all area children. A step forward in education is a leap ahead for the Miss-Lou.
