TWENTY YEARS AGO — Block head football coach Emilio Tesei, who turned the Block Bears from a team that went 2-8 in 1985 to one that went 8-4 and made the playoffs for the first time in six years, says he wants to be known as a coach who cares about his players.

TEN YEARS AGO — Despite having 14 hits of their own, including a triple by Bobbye Miller and a double by Kelly Fuller, the Natchez High Lady Bulldogs lose to the Brookhaven Lady Panthers 17-6 thanks to an 11-hit, 10-run rally in the top of the fourth inning.

FIVE YEARS AGO — Gary Sheffield’s single in the bottom of the first inning brings in the only run of the game, Tom Glavine allows just five hits in seven innings for his 240th career win and John Smoltz earns his 42nd save of the season as Atlanta defeats San Francisco 1-0.
