VIDALIA — One of the men implicated in a March shooting in Ferriday left court Wednesday facing tougher charges.
Daryl L. White, of Ferriday, was originally charged with being an accessory after the fact to attempted second degree murder and aggravated battery because he allegedly drove a get-away car after a March 21 shooting.
However, after appearing in court Wednesday, White’s charges were upgraded to attempted murder.
There is evidence to suggest White played a greater role in the shooting than was initially thought, Assistant District Attorney Brad Burget said.
White is facing trial as a co-defendant with Terrence Nix, of New Orleans, for a shooting that resulted in one of the victims, Derrick Butler, having to have his arm amputated.
The shooting allegedly happened in the parking lot of the Concordia Apartments at 200 Kyle Road.
A woman and her two children were reportedly in the car Butler and Hawkins were getting out of at the time of the incident.
According to Ferriday Police officials at the time, the shooting was reportedly retribution for an incident that happened earlier that day in which one of the accused was jumped by a group of people that included one of the victims.
Both Nix and White are scheduled to return to court for a trial of motions Sept. 12.
