NATCHEZ — The right golf clubs can either make or break a person’s outlook on the game.

“Golf is supposed to be enjoyable,” Duncan Park Golf Pro Marvin Gray said. “You can enjoy the game more when you have the right clubs.”

Gray said only 25 percent of hitting the ball is the club and the other 75 percent is the movement of the swing.

“To be fitted, the person must have a balanced swing,” Gray said. “Once a balanced swing is established, we can find a club that works for the customer.”

Everything is assessed when getting fitted; height, length of arms and physical ability.

There is a club for everyone Gray said.

“If you hit to the right or need better accuracy there is a club designed to correct those things,” Gray said.

Danny Hankins of Natchez was fitted by Gray three months ago.

“I was fitted for everything but my driver,” Hankins said. “My scores dropped around four strokes. It was a big change.”

It takes about an hour to get fitted by Gray. In that time, he will break down your swing, take measurements and make suggestions for the right type of clubs.

Gray said not everyone needs graphite shafts or top dollar clubs. It’s what works for the player.

“The right clubs can refine a player’s ball flight,” Gray said. “It helps enhance their game and make it more enjoyable.”

It will cost $100 to get fitted by Gray. But that price is credited back if you buy clubs through him.

You can also trade-in your old set of clubs to help offset the cost.

The price for a new set of clubs depends on the brand, style and design.

To schedule a time for fitting Gray can be reached at the Duncan Park Club House at 601-442-5955.
