CENTREVILLE — Centreville’s lack of offensive production and a costly error proved to be key factors in the Lady Tigers’ 3-0 loss to the Columbia Academy Lady Cougars Thursday afternoon.
Centreville, which has now lost three of its last four games to drop to 7-4, managed just three hits off winning pitcher Alyssa Boutwell.
“We’re playing sound defense and solid pitching. But we’re still struggling at the plate,” Centreville head coach Mark Mann said.
Columbia Academy broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the sixth inning when an error, a bunt single and walk loaded the bases for Damie (no last name given), who hit a 3-2 pitch off losing pitcher Emily Gaulden for a three-run triple.
“You make a mistake like that and it’ll cost you,” Mann said about the error.
Centreville had a chance to score in the bottom of the first inning when Amber Brown doubled, but Amber Addington was thrown out at home plate trying to score from second base. That would be the only scoring opportunity the Lady Tigers had against Boutwell, who held them to just three hits.
