LIBERTY — Bethany Fletcher held Amite School Center to no runs on one hit in the first six innings before the Lady Rebels scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for a 2-1 win over the WCCA Lady Rams Thursday afternoon.
Amite School Center scored its first run when Jackson started the rally with a single, moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by C. Swims and came in on a single to right field by B. Tetrick. Then Picard scored the game-winning run on single by S. Smith.
Winning pitcher Casey Alexander did her part to keep ASC in the game by limiting WCCA (5-8) to one run on five hits. Two outstanding defensive plays also helped out Alexander.
“It was an excellent pitching performance by both pitchers,” WCCA head coach Ray Olive said. “I thought Fletcher pitched a super game. The difference in the game was the coach. I got us thrown out at home twice, first in the second inning and then in the seventh.”
WCCA scored its only run in the top of the third inning. Taylor Littleton went to first after being hit by a pitch, went to second on a bunt by Olivia Whitehead and scored on a single by Hannah Ashley.
