Bowie’s fight causes confusion

The Natchez Democrat and Mike Worley, organizer of the Bowie knife show, seem to be a bit confused about the Jim Bowie sandbar fight.
According to Worley, the fight occurred in 1927. This would make Jim Bowie 131 years old (he was born in 1796) and taking place during the great Mississippi River flood, not to mention that Bowie died in 1836 at the Alamo after joining the revolution.
Worley also has said that the back of his bar at Bowie’s Tavern was signed by Kit Carson, the famous frontier scout. The bar dates back to the 1880’s. That’s interesting because Ol’ Kit died in 1868.
Now that’s legendary!
