NATCHEZ — Xi Alpha Phi Sorority members celebrated Beginning Day on Aug. 26 at the home of Linda Cox.

During the social hour, President Jeanette Webb announced that the chapter had been chosen as a three star chapter and is listed in the international sorority magazine, “The Torch.” the three-star rating is the highest attainable for any sorority chapter. Service chairman, Carole Cotton thanked the group for the canned goods each had collected and noted that they have been delivered to a needy family by service committee members. Other service projects planned for the month of September will benefit the Natchez Humane Society.

The new sorority theme for the coming year, “Sing a song of sisterhood” will be promoted in meetings, socials and other functions of all chapters.

Members attending were dressed in clothing reminiscent of the 1950s. Carole Cotton best depicted this theme and was the winner of the costume contest with her decorated poodle skirt.

The cultural program consisted of a quiz during which members guessed the meaning of slang words or phrases dating back to the 50s.

Dana Dent led a discussion involving members in planning for the state sorority convention, which will be in Natchez in June 2009.

Other chapter activities included a “Scrapbooking and Working Day” which was at the home of Cathy Roboski recently. Webb, Roboski and Cox shared with the group their extensive collection of scrapbooking supplies and each member created pages for the chapter scrapbook. Also, Maria Mauro, Ann Flewelling and Janet Gay constructed new pin badges.

Members paused during the workday to enjoy a noon picnic lunch prepared and served by Jean Simonton. Legacy member, Anna Roboski assisted with serving.
