CENTREVILLE — The final game of the Centreville Academy Lady Tigers Fastpitch Softball Tournament didn’t quite turn out the way the host team thought it would.

Centreville fell to WCCA 7-4 Saturday afternoon.

Winning pitcher Bethany Fletcher settled down after giving up three runs in the top of the first inning. She allowed just one run the final four innings and gave up just five hits in the game.

She also had a strong performance at the plate to lead WCCA’s offense, going 3-for-3 with a single, a double and a triple. The Lady Rams (10-15) had seven hits in the game, yet they scored all seven of their runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Emily Gaulden went 2-for-3 with a double for the Lady Tigers and Haley Mann took the loss on the mound after relieving Gaulden on the mound.

That was the Lady Rams’ only win in the three games they played in this tournament. They lost to the Columbia Academy Lady Cougars 4-3 on a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning and then lost to the Oak Forest Academy Lady Yellow Jackets 6-4. Both of those games were played in the afternoon.

And the WCCA win was also the only loss for Centreville (19-7) in its three games. The Lady Tigers defeated Oak Forest 7-2 Saturday morning and then trounced Columbia Academy 12-2 Saturday afternoon. But in the final game of the day, Centreville lost the coin toss and wound up being the visiting team on its own home field in its own.

In the loss to Columbia Academy, WCCA scored three runs but had no hits in the four-inning contest.
