WOODVILLE — A man wanted for allegedly killing his father and severely wounding his mother was arrested in Wilkinson County Thursday afternoon, law officials said.
Joel Bailey, 32, 520 Tommy Bailey Road, of Dry Creek, La., allegedly shot both his mother and father Sunday night between 10 and 10:30 p.m. at his parents’ house, where he was living, Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Robert McCullough said.
Bailey reportedly fled, and his vehicle was found just outside Woodville late Wednesday morning.
“Apparently, the vehicle had been there a couple days,” McCullough said.
The Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office alerted law enforcement in the surrounding counties and parishes.
A Mississippi Highway Patrol officer found him at roughly 3:15 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 61, roughly 13 miles north of Woodville, approximately 10 miles north of where Bailey’s vehicle was found, according to a statement form the parish sheriff’s office.
Bailey, on foot, identified himself to the trooper and did not resist arrest.
He was transported to the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office. The parish sheriff’s office will transport Bailey to the Beauregard Parish Jail by early this morning.
McCullough said the investigation was ongoing and would not give a possible motive for the attack.
Bailey’s mother was critically wounded and is at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, McCullough said.
