Local tennis tourney wraps up

NATCHEZ — It was a good weekend for two Gulf Coast teams at the USTA Mississippi State Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament at the Duncan Park Tennis Courts.
The Mississippi/Pine Belt/Gedlitschka team won the 9.0 division, albeit narrowly, with a team score of 4-0 and an individual score of 9-3. The EVERHART team finished second in the team score at 3-1 and in the individual score at 8-4. The Sally Thompson team, the Lawrence — HRC team and the Bowman/Foil-BGCTC team each had a team score of 1-3.
The Mississippi/Gulf Coast/Weems team won the Mixed 8.0 division with a team score of 1-0 and an individual score of 2-1, while the Assaf/HRC team, the only other team in this division, went 0-1 and 1-2, respectively.
In the Mixed 7.0 division, The Mississippi/East Central/Griffin team finished in first place with a team score of 1-0 and an individual score of 2-1, defeating the Lea/RACQUETEERS team.
The Mississippi/Gulf Coast/Matthews team won the 6.0 division with a team score of 1-0 and an individual score of 2-1 to take down the Delk/Ruffin 6.0 – Sportsplex team.
In the Mixed 5.0 division, the Mississippi/Delta/Sorrell team came away in first place with a team score of 5-0 and a solid individual score of 14-1. The Pearson-Gulf Hills finished second with a team score of 4-1 and an individual score of 10-5 and Duckworth-Sportsplex team finished third with a team score of 3-2.
