Natchez High ‘don’t get no respect’

Is it just me, or did anyone else notice that our own Natchez High Bulldogs got what I would call the “Rodney Dangerfield” treatment in this Saturday’s paper as far as the pictures go.

There were five football pictures in the Sports section — one showing a Cathedral player making a sweep around left end and, as the caption said, “moving the ball down field,” and one showing a Ferriday player breaking a tackle of a Vidalia player. Of the three involving the Natchez game, there was one showing a Wilkinson County player “breaking away and sprinting for a first down;” one showing a Wilkinson County player laying a crushing tackle on a Natchez player; and one showing the Wilkinson County quarterback preparing to throw a pass. In an entire football game — which Natchez won 40-24 by the way — could the photographer and/or sports editor of the Natchez paper not find even one decent picture showing the Natchez team doing one of the many things that gave them that impressive victory? Even in defeat, albeit a close and apparently well-played game, Cathedral got a picture showing them doing something positive.

Like Rodney Dangerfield’s signature line, it appears that the Natchez Bulldogs “don’t get no respect around here.”
