Natchez man continues to do what is right

Once again Darrell Reeves has shown himself to be a remarkable example of our dedicated Mississippi Department of Transportation employees.

A couple of weeks ago Darrell found a billfold that had been laid on a car and had blown off onto the roadway. The billfold contained a large amount of cash, credit cards and those identity cards we all cherish and guard in these days of identity theft. Darrell was able to get the owner’s phone number and called him to return the billfold.

The frantic owner was elated to get his billfold but, even more so, stunned that someone was returning it to him. Darrell, in his usual understated manner, is dismissive of the recognition he has received. To him “doing the right thing” is no big deal. That is how Darrell lives his life.

Darrell works in the Natchez Maintenance Barn as a Heavy Equipment Tech III. He has been with MDOT for nine years. He is married with two daughters and two grandchildren and lives in Natchez. Darrell is a devoted member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Natchez.

In 2001 Darrell was recognized for plunging into an icy pond to help rescue a lady whose automobile had run off into the water. That is also the kind of person he is. When he sees someone in need or distress, Darrell jumps right in without thought to his safety.
