WINNSBORO, La. — The Wilkinson County Christian Academy Lady Rams got off to a good start at the MPSA Class A South State Fast-Pitch Tournament with a 7-0 win over the Russell Christian Academy Lady Warriors Wednesday afternoon.
Bethany Fletcher had an outstanding performance on the mound for WCCA as she pitched a one-hitter and struck out nine in six innings to pick up the win.
The Lady Rams broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the second inning. Heather Stutzman, who went 2-for-3, had the big hit in the home half of that inning with a three-run double. Sam Pace drove in a run with a single, Mary Claire Netterville stole home plate to score and the other run scored on a passed ball.
WCCA scored its seventh and final run of the game in the bottom of the third inning when Crystal Jackson walked and later scored from third base on a passed ball.
WCCA, the No. 2 seed out of District 6-A, will have a couple of days of practice to get ready for its next game in the winners’ bracket of this tournament at Franklin Academy. The Lady Rams will take on the winner of the game between District 5-A champion Veritas School and District 6-A No. 3 seed Claiborne Academy at 10 a.m. Saturday.
