NATCHEZ — A nine run second inning was enough for Bogue Chitto to defeat the Cathedral Lady Green Wave 12-7 Thursday night.
“The one good thing was we got out of our rut,” Cathedral head coach Pam Clayton said. “We have only been scoring three or four runs here lately.”
Bogue Chitto got nine runs in six hits in the second inning by capitalizing off four Green Wave errors.
“We are still a young team,” Clayton said. “But I’m pleased. We are just making a showing this season.”
Clayton said Cathedral would be a lot better and experienced in the future.
Cathedral started to get their bats going in the third. Betsy Daggett and Elizabeth Blackwell scored on an Anna Huffines’ double. She was brought in by Melissa Cavin to make the score 9-3.
“Our hitting is getting better,” Clayton said. “We’ve been working on that and it is beginning to show.”
The Lady Green Wave cut the lead to two in the fifth with four runs on six hits.
But Bogue Chitto was able to rally and notch two insurance runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to hold Cathedral.
“We’re coming along,” Clayton said. “We are getting back to the way we were at the beginning of the season. We just have to continue practicing our hitting and learn to place our hits.”
