FAYETTE — Percy Turner threw for 207 yards and three touchdowns, ran for another and threw four two-point conversion passes as the Jefferson County Tigers remained undefeated with a 44-20 win over the Amite County Trojans Friday night in the Region 7-3A opener for both teams.

Jefferson County (4-0, 1-0) jumped out to a 20-0 halftime lead thanks to a 2-yard touchdown run by Turner late in the first quarter, a 1-yard run by Calvin Lewis and a 15-yard touchdown pass from Turner to Kadon Day, both in the second quarter.

The second half, and in particular the third quarter, was a shootout between the two teams. And the scoring went back and forth between the Tigers and the Trojans.

With 3:18 to go in the third, Stephon Patterson scored on a 15-yard fumble recovery and James Brown’s two-point conversion run cut the Tigers’ lead to 20-8. The Tigers answered with a 2-yard touchdown pass from Turner to Day at the 1:47 mark. Turner added the second of three two-point conversion passes to Henry Nichols, who had four catches for 94 yards.
