NATCHEZ — The impeding thunderstorms held off just long enough for the Cathedral Lady Green Wave to defeat the St. Aloysius Lady Flashes 16-0 in five innings in game one of what was supposed to be a double header.

“This was a rescheduled game from earlier in the season,” Cathedral head coach Pam Clayton said.

Cathedral started off slow in the first inning but was able to plate two runs.

After a scoreless second inning Cathedral got hot and capitalized on three errors by the Lady Flashes in the third inning.

“We started off slow,” Clayton said. “But we settled down and we picked it up as the game went on.”

Winning pitcher Rachel Smilo had a great outing walking only one batter and allowing one hit.

“Our defense was solid today,” Clayton said. “I’m proud of the way they played today.”

Game two was rained out and will be made up on Thursday at 5:30.

With the win, Cathedral improves their record to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in district.

Cathedral’s last game before the district tournament is Tuesday Oct. 2 against West Lincoln. Junior varsity begins at 5 p.m. and varsity starts at 6 p.m.
