BOGUE CHITTTO — Bogue Chitto quarterback Seth Avants ran for four touchdowns and threw for another as the Bobcats remained undefeated with a 55-34 win over the Cathedral Green Wave Friday night in Region 4-1A action.

Despite being the underdog in this game, Cathedral led 14-8 at the end of the first quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run by Jamerson Jones and a 60-yard kickoff return by Kole Junkin after Avants scored on a 68-yard run.

The Green Wave was still in the game at halftime trailing 20-14, but its defense had no answer for the Bobcats’ running game, which racked up a total of 495 yards on 65 carries.

“I thought we played well in the first half,” Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said. “They came back and ran it right at us and we couldn’t slow them down. I was pleased with the effort we gave in the first half.”

Avants added touchdown runs of 6, 6 and 15 yards and threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to D.J. Turner as Bogue Chitto (5-0, 5-0) wound up scoring 22 points in the third quarter to take a 42-14 lead.

Cathedral (1-4, 1-4) tried to rally in the fourth quarter as Preston Edwards three touchdown passes, two to Braxton Edwards and one to Daniel Jenkins, but it was not enough.

Edwards threw for 250 yards on 14-of-36 passing, but he also threw two interceptions. The Green Wave ended up turning the ball over four times.

“They had all the momentum going into halftime and coming out of halftime,” Beesley said. “We had to play better than a good game to beat them.”

Avants wound up with 174 yards rushing on 16 carries and Donyea Dillon led the Bobcats with 178 yards rushing on 29 carries and two touchdowns.
