TWENTY YEARS AGO — Among the Miss-Lou’s ‘Sports Superlatives’ are Port Gibson’s Arthur Brandon, who had four TDs in a win over Hinds, North Natchez’s Alfred Hartwell, who ran for 131 yards in a win over McComb, and ACCS’s Paul Hayles, who had eight tackles in a win over Centreville.

TEN YEARS AGO — Heath Shuler throws an 89-yard touchdown pass to Randal Hill with 5:39 remaining in the game as the New Orleans Saints defeat the Chicago Bears 20-17 as Saints head coach Mike Ditka gets a little revenge on the team that fired him nearly five years ago.

FIVE YEARS AGO — Matt Grier’s first interception sets up Ole Miss’s first touchdown and he intercepts another Rex Grossman pass and returns it 24 yards for a touchdown as the Rebels upset sixth-ranked Florida 17-14 for their first win over a top-10 team since defeating No. 8 LSU in 1997.
