FC Ladies edge out Richland

RICHLAND — The Franklin County Lady Bulldogs scored eight runs in the final two innings to escape with a 19-11 win over the Richland Lady Rangers last Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Bulldogs scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to break an 11-11 tie and then got a two-run home run from Monea Cameron during a four-run seventh inning that put the game away.

Allison Hauer had the biggest hit of the game for Franklin County, hitting a grand slam as Franklin County opened up a 7-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

Led by Kacey Smith, who went 4-for-5, and Kristen Oglesby, who went 3-for-5 with a double, the Lady Bulldogs finished with 22 hits in the game.

With the win, Franklin County wound up as co-champions of Region 6-3A with Hazlehurst with a 9-1 record, but ended up with the region’s No. 2 seed. The Lady Dawgs will take a 19-9 overall record into the first round of the Class 3A South State Playoffs.

Franklin County will hit the road Tuesday to face Region 5-3A champion Southeast Lauderdale in Meridian in the first round. All three games will be played on Tuesday. Game 1 starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by Game 2 at 6 p.m. The time for Game 3, if it is necessary, is yet to be determined.
