MERIDIAN — The Southeast Lauderdale Lady Tigers used the long ball to eliminate the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs from the Class 3A South State Playoffs with a two-game sweep in the best-of-three series Tuesday afternoon.
Despite heavy rains which hit the Meridian area earlier in the day, Southeast Lauderdale made quick work of Franklin County. The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Bulldogs 19-2 and 15-0 in a pair of games that went five innings.
“They had three grand slams, one in the first game and two in the second game,” Franklin County head coach Dana Smith said. “They have a short fence. In left field, it’s not even regulation. In most parks, those would be long fly outs, but not there.”
While the Lady Tigers, the Region 5-3A champion, had little problem hitting the ball, the Lady Bulldogs, Region 6-3A’s No. 2 seed, were held to just three hits in each of the two games.
Franklin County, making its second straight playoff appearance, finished with a 19-11 record.
