vidalia — The Vidalia Vikings look to get back in the win column when they host the Marksville Tigers this week in a district game.

Vidalia (3-3, 0-1 District 3-3A) is coming off of a loss at Bunkie in both teams’ district opener.

“That one was a tough loss. We could have won it,” Vidalia coach Dee Faircloth said.

Last week’s game was the first for the Vikings in their new district.

Some key players that have stepped up for Vidalia include freshman Dee Fleming, senior Doug Logan, and junior Kevin Johnson.

“Kevin has done an outstanding job blocking this year,” Faircloth said.

Vidalia’s defense has been another strong point of the team this year, giving up only an average of 12 points per game.

Looking toward this week, Vidalia will have another tough match-up against Marksville.

“It’s going to be a tough game against LSU West.” Faircloth joked, “Our defense will once again have to step it up.”

Marksville (5-1) is ranked No. 8 in Class 3A with their only loss against 4A DeRidder.

The Tigers are also ranked as the No. 1 team in all of Central Louisiana.

“Their quarterback, Alex Brouillette, is a miniature Tim Tebow,” Faircloth said.

Marksville is coming off of a 46-7 win over Avoyelles last week.

“If we can beat them, we can take the district,” Faircloth said.

The game will take place in Vidalia at 7 p.m.
